The ready-to-drink (RTD) cocktail company Moth has seen its annual revenue climb by 67.3%, reaching £20.9 million, according to newly filed financial records. This surge stems from stronger distribution networks and heightened brand recognition, especially in supermarket chains outside traditional on-trade outlets.

Company documents at Companies House confirm the business, established by Rob Wallis and Samuel Hunt, recorded higher sales over the 12 months ending January 31, 2026, compared to the prior year. Wallis credited the rise to “strong distribution gains and brand momentum, particularly in the off-trade channel”, noting the brand’s expanding footprint in UK grocery stores.

Market Growth

Moth’s rise aligns with broader trends in pre-mixed cocktails, as UK RTD sales topped £190 million in the 52 weeks to August 8, 2026, with volume growth of 16.7%, per NIQ data. Yet Wallis emphasized that Moth is outpacing the category by three times, driven by steady demand from both shoppers and retailers for its canned cocktail selection.

The brand’s flavors, margaritas, espresso martinis, cosmopolitans, and mojitos, are now carried by leading retailers, including Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Waitrose, Morrisons, and Asda.

International Expansion

Meanwhile, Moth’s overseas push is accelerating, with US sales jumping over fivefold, from £124,000 to £677,000, during the same period. Wallis characterized the American market as still in its early stages but confirmed the company has secured key distribution partnerships.

In a recent interview, he stated: “With the funding round and with the scale we’re at now, people think we’re sort of reaching maturity in the UK, and I couldn’t disagree more. We’ve barely started. There’s so much room left in the UK, let alone the US, which is also super exciting.”

Financial Performance

Despite revenue gains, Moth continues to operate at a loss. Pre-tax losses expanded to £4.8 million (up from £3.6 million last year), while operating losses rose 30% to £4 million. The company attributed these figures to ongoing investments in distribution, product innovation, marketing, and US market entry. Gross margins improved slightly by 0.8 percentage points, reaching 37%.

In July, the company raised £11 million in new funding, led by Puma Growth Partners and backed by Guinness Ventures, Beringea, and Rianta Capital, to fuel further UK and US growth.
