Northern Pasta has strengthened its position in UK supermarkets by securing a national deal with Sainsbury’s, rolling out to 372 stores nationwide on 30th October 2026. This follows its launch at Waitrose earlier this year, placing the Cumbria-based company in two of the UK’s largest grocery chains. The brand’s regeneratively grown British spelt pasta is now sold in three varieties, Radiatori, Rigatoni, and Conchiglie, priced at £3.95 for 360g. The expansion reflects the company’s mission to make its sustainably produced pasta more accessible across the country.

The expansion comes as the company scales up operations, having opened a 12,000 sq ft factory in Carnforth, Lancashire to support growing demand. Behind this growth is a 150% increase in staffing over the past year, with the workforce expanding from four to ten employees with investments made in new machinery and team expansion. Co-founder Matt Kenyon said: “We’ve grown our factory team from four to ten in the space of a year, and every bit of investment we’ve made has gone straight back into the equipment and the people who make our pasta what it is.” The new facility represents a major step in the company’s ability to meet increased retail demand while maintaining its commitment to ethical production.

Founded in 2022, Northern Pasta specializes in sustainable and ethically produced food. Its products use spelt grown through regenerative farming, a method designed to enhance soil health while minimizing environmental harm. This approach aligns with rising consumer demand for locally sourced, sustainably made goods. The company’s focus on regenerative agriculture not only supports environmental goals but also strengthens its connection to British farmers, ensuring a transparent and responsible supply chain.

Publicity has also contributed to the brand’s success. Northern Pasta appeared on BBC One’s Dragon’s Den on 17 September 2026, increasing its visibility. Co-founder Imogen Royall called the Sainsbury’s listing a key achievement, emphasizing that each milestone, from the factory opening to the TV appearance, supports the company’s mission. “Landing a listing with Sainsbury’s, right on the back of stepping into the Den and opening our new factory, feels like everything is coming together at once,” she said. “Every one of these milestones is about the same thing for us: getting proper, honestly made pasta onto more tables while building something that supports British farmers and the North of England for the long term.”
