Food waste remains a significant operational and sustainability challenge in the industry. Retailers are recognizing that reducing waste is not just about improving markdown execution, but also about making the right decisions at the right time using operational data.

Martin Rigby, General Manager of EMEA and APAC for Retail Insight, states that retailers have access to more operational data than ever before, but data only creates value when it enables better decisions. He notes that the opportunity is to move from reporting what has already happened to identifying where action is needed before waste occurs.

Steve Shirley, Iceland Foods’ Stores Director, says, “Reducing food waste remains an important priority for Iceland. We are continually looking at ways to improve how we use operational data to support our colleagues in making faster, better-informed decisions in stores.” The partnership with Retail Insight will help Iceland explore how AI-driven operational intelligence can support its waste reduction objectives while improving consistency across its store operations.
