In support of local farmers, M&S has reduced prices for selected British beef, lamb, and pork items. The retailer’s goal is to enhance the affordability and availability of quality British meat for consumers while assisting domestic suppliers. Price adjustments include Diced British Beef (500g) now costing £6, down from £7; Lamb Mince (400g) at £5.60, reduced from £6.20; and Pork Sausages priced at £2, a decrease from £2.60.
Commitment to Local Sourcing and Partnerships
The retailer sources 100% British beef and lamb, maintaining long-term partnerships with local producers. This pricing adjustment reinforces M&S’s pledge to support UK agriculture and its commitment to locally produced supermarket staples. Alex Freudmann, managing director of M&S Food, emphasized that British farmers play a vital role in producing the high-quality food customers expect and that the company is committed to backing them for the long term, especially as farmers face increasing pressure in the current market. He noted that the retailer is proud to champion British produce, support high standards of welfare and quality, and help more customers choose British meat at M&S.
Broader Strategy to Expand Affordability
This initiative aligns with M&S’s wider strategy to expand affordability across essentials for families without compromising quality or sourcing credentials. Earlier this year in April, M&S announced a £2.1bn investment in local farming through two decade-long contracts with British meat suppliers ABP and Dunbia. In June, M&S cut the cost of over 65 everyday products across fresh food, store cupboard, and freezer categories as part of a £30m investment.
