Ahold Delhaize has extended the shutdown of its online shopping platform to a fifth consecutive day after a security breach forced the system offline.

The retailer said protecting its infrastructure is a top priority for customers, employees and partners. It offered an apology for the inconvenience and promised that any digital order left unfinished would be refunded in full. The notice also stressed that the company is working to restore normal service as quickly as possible while safeguarding data.

Physical supermarkets, pharmacy counters and gas stations stayed open throughout the outage, so shoppers could still obtain groceries, fill prescriptions and purchase fuel in person. Those whose online purchases were not completed will receive a full refund, according to the public statement.

The page also listed links to third-party delivery options such as DoorDash, Instacart and Uber Eats, giving shoppers alternative ways to receive their orders.

The shutdown began on Monday after a Sunday cybersecurity event forced the company to take systems offline. European brands owned by the same group, Albert Heijn, Delhaize, Etos, Gall & Gall and bol.com, were also taken down, although their physical stores remained open for shoppers.

The outage follows recent attacks on other European retailers, including a French incident that caused refrigerator temperatures to rise dramatically. A 2024 breach at the same parent company affected more than 2 million U.S. customers, disrupting deliveries, payments and online portals.

At the time of writing, the publication was still awaiting further comment from the U.S. division of the group.
